History

In 1969, two women of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite in Southern Manitoba set up a family style home in Winnipeg for children who were waiting for more permanent placing. They purchased a house on 909 Bannatyne Ave The household had a board of directors under Northern Missions. Various women volunteered. The need for these children in transition was great enough that another home was purchased on Glenwood Crescent. These two homes were run by Northern Missions until 1991.

In 1990, a volunteer unit was started in Montreal, QC, and is still operating today. where 2 boys live with a set of houseparents.

Around that time,  Christian Public Service Canada was organized to oversee humanitarian work and let the mission program focus on spreading the gospel. The Church of God in Christ Mennonite had been operating Christian Public Service in the U.S. since the 1950’s and the Canadian division was patterned similar to it. CPS Canada took over the administration of the two homes in Winnipeg.

Today there are volunteer girls’ units in Halifax, NS, Stoney Creek (Hamilton), ON and Edmonton, AB and boys’ units in St Johns, NL, Montreal, QC, and Kelowna, BC
