Edmonton, Alberta

In 2001, a voluntary girl’s unit was set up in Edmonton, AB. The unit began with houseparents and two girls, with two more girls arriving three months later. They began volunteering at the Cross Cancer Institute, the University of Alberta hospital, and later at Ronald McDonald House and Kid’s Kottage.

The girls continue to volunteer at the Cross Cancer Institute, in the gift shop and wig salon etc. At the University of Alberta Hospital they help with wayfinding, volunteer at the Mazankowski Heart Institute doctors’s offices and at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. They also hand out food hampers at Edmonton’s Food Bank. The girls sing at the Edmonton Mennonite Guest House on Tuesday evenings and at a few senior care facilities each month. A prayer service is held every Sunday afternoon at the chapel in the University of Alberta Hospital, followed by the girls singing in the Healing Garden.
