Kentville, NS

1992 – 2003

Started in October, 1992 with houseparents and two boys:

  • Evergreen Nursing Home – assist with serving breakfast; walking with residents; help with activities
  • Two Soup kitchens – prepare meals, set tables, serve, help with clean-up
  • Windsor NS hospital – assist in Pharmacy
  • Meals on Wheels – deliver meals to seniors and disabled; collect money for meals

After 9/11, about 40 planes carrying several thousand passengers were diverted to Halifax. About 800 of these passengers stayed at Camp Aldershot, a military training base, less than a kilometer from the CPS house. Under Red Cross, the volunteers of the unit ministered to the stranded travelers. They helped get everyone registered, sent messages to family and friends, got necessities because they did not have their luggage, and provided rides to those who needed to get into town.

In 2003, the Kentville Boys Unit closed.
